David Nyhus, age 72, of Park Rapids passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patty (nee Patricia A. Gnerer), children, Sonja Bramucci (Bill), David R. Nyhus Jr. (Virginia) and Paul R.J. Nyhus; grandchildren Shaw Gravlin, Sam Gravlin, Shea David Nyhus.

David was born in Minneapolis, then moved to Park Rapids during 8th grade living with a loving family until his graduation from Park Rapids High School in 1962. He attended Dunwoody Institute and graduated with a Chief Engineer’s license specializing in Boiler Inspections. He returned to the Twin Cities area to seek employment. He and his wife, Patty, were married and raised their family in Prior Lake, MN actively involved in the kids sporting events.

After working for NSP for ten years, David moved into self-employment as the owner of Gopher Fence, followed by a lengthy tenure providing custodial maintenance for the Prior Lake High School.

David had a life-long enjoyment of old music – especially Bobby Vee, car racing - driving drag racing cars and acting as pit crew as often as possible. He had a knack for storytelling and social gatherings – especially bonfires and pig roasts. He loved bringing people together for any kind of entertainment. His sense of humor and the laugh in his beautiful brown eyes drew people to him. Gambling junkets were treasured memories with many friends. He will be remembered as a great gentleman and a wonderful father.

A memorial service for David will be held at the Prior Lake VFW Post #6208 at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 7th, 2017.
